General Information
Graphical Analysis Pro | Logger Pro |
---|---|
Graphical Analysis Pro is a newer data collection and analysis application that runs on iOS/iPadOS, Android, and ChromeOS in addition to Windows and macOS computers. | Logger Pro is a very mature and powerful program that was first published in 1997. It runs on macOS and Windows only. |
Graphical Analysis Pro can be purchased as a 1-year or 3-year license. There is a free version of Graphical Analysis that has fewer features. What features are available in Graphical Analysis Pro that are not available in the free version? | Logger Pro is no longer being sold, but you can still use it if you already own a license. Logger Pro will no longer receive updates |
User of Chromebooks, phones, or tablets must use Graphical Analysis or Graphical Analysis Pro. | Logger Pro only runs on a Windows or macOS computer. |
Graphical Analysis and Graphical Analysis Pro support Go Direct Sensors. | Logger Pro does not support Go Direct Sensors. |
Graphical Analysis and Graphical Analysis Pro support wired sensors that require an interface. Supported interfaces include Go!Link, LabQuest Mini, and LabQuest 3. (Sensors must Auto-ID.) | Logger Pro supports wired sensors that require an interface. Supported interfaces include LabPro, Go!Link, LabQuest Mini, and LabQuest 3. |
Spectrometers, Video Analysis, and some chemistry instruments are supported in separate apps. (Spectral Analysis, Video Analysis, and Instrumental Analysis.) | Logger Pro supports all of these in a single application. |
Graphical Analysis has a Progress Web App version (no installation required) than runs in a Chrome browser on a computer or Chromebook. (This version is required for Chromebooks. An installed version is also available for Windows and macOS computers.) | Logger Pro requires the software to be installed on Windows and macOS computers (and cannot be used with Chromebooks). |
Additional Details
Sensor Support
Go Direct Sensors (with the exception of Go Direct Spectrometers) work with Graphical Analysis Pro and not Logger Pro.
- These newer sensors that can connect via wireless Bluetooth or USB connection cannot be used with Logger Pro software. Graphical Analysis is required.
- Go Direct Spectrometers can work with Logger Pro via a USB connection only. Graphical Analysis Pro does not work with spectrometers, use the free Spectral Analysis app instead.
The following hardware only works with Logger Pro on a computer. They are not supported in Graphical Analysis Pro.
- LabPro interface
- Ohaus balances
- Watts Up Pro
- Wireless Dynamics Sensor System
- Respiration Monitor Belt
- Polarimeter (Chemical)
- Digital Control Unit
- Original Vernier Structures and Material Tester – linear displacement sensor (Force sensor is supported)
Most pre-2003 sensors do not Auto-ID and require Logger Pro. Graphical Analysis Pro does not support these sensors.
- Older sensors that do not automatically ID when connected to the software (e.g., DIN-style sensors and sensors that require an adapter to connect to an interface)
- The following links provide some assistance in determining the age of your sensors by appearance:

Data Analysis
Certain advanced Data Collection and Analysis Features require the use of Logger Pro on a computer. These features are not included in Graphical Analysis Pro.
- Gel Analysis
- Mapping data (export to Google Maps or ArcGIS)
- Complete experiment files (also known as template files) for the experiments in our lab books
- Obtain the highest performance from interfaces
- Work with very large data sets
Books
Some books are written using Logger Pro software but do not yet have experiments written for Graphical Analysis. For most of our lab books, an updated edition that includes instructions for the new software is available as a free upgrade. However, the following books are currently Logger Pro only:
- Water Quality with Vernier (WQV-E)
- Investigating Environmental Science through Inquiry (ESI-E)
- Agricultural Science with Vernier (AWV-E)
- Advanced Biology with Vernier (BIO-A-E)
- Forensics with Vernier (FWV-E)
- Human Physiology with Vernier (HP-A-E)
- Physics with Video Analysis (PVA-E) – see Can the activities in Physics with Video Analysis be done using Vernier Video Analysis and Graphical Analysis Pro?
- Nuclear Radiation with Vernier
- Real-World Math with Vernier (RWV-E)
Chromebooks, iOS, and Android
Chromebooks are inexpensive and very easy for IT to support. Tablets offer great portability and ease of use. As a result these platforms are increasingly common. Logger Pro is not supported on these platforms.
- Our general software for data collection mobile platforms is the Graphical Analysis app.
- Support for spectrometers is available when using our free Spectral Analysis app. What spectrometers are supported in Spectral Analysis?
- Support for Vernier mini gas chromatographs and other instruments is available when using our free Instrumental Analysis app. What instruments are supported in Instrumental Analysis?
- Support for video analysis is available when using our Vernier Video Analysis app.
