This article refers to the Go Direct® 3-Axis Magnetic Field Sensor (GDX-3MG)
For information about the Magnetic Field Sensor (MG-BTA), see Magnetic Field Sensor Troubleshooting and FAQs
The Go Direct 3-Axis Magnetic Field Sensor has two ranges. The high-precision range is ±5 mT and the low-precision range is ±130 mT. When the magnetic field exceeds ±5 mT at the sensor tip, the low-precision sensor detects the larger field and pegs the high-precision sensor reading at 5 mT. However, if there is a problem with the low-precision sensor, the reading may not peg at 5 mT even in a very large magnetic field, such as those produced by powerful rare earth or neodymium magnets. Instead, the reading may decrease to zero as the magnetic field increases. If this occurs, contact Vernier technical support for assistance.
If the sensor is exposed to a magnetic field greater than ±130 mT at the sensor tip, the low-precision sensor will read a high value and stay there.
