When collecting data using the Graphical Analysis app, only one student device communicates with the sensor(s). The information below describes ways in which the data collected by one student device can be shared with the other students in the lab group.
Graphical Analysis App—All Versions
Graphical Analysis app data files can be saved from within the application. Saved files can be shared via email or placed in a cloud service that supports file sharing (Google Drive, Dropbox, or iCloud).
- Click or tap File Menu,
, then select Save As.
- Specify the file name and saved-file location, then click or tap Save.
- Send the file as an email attachment or make the file accessible to your lab partner(s).
- When opening a file, double-clicking generally does not work. Use Choose File from the New Experiment Screen, or Open from the File menu.
- Files saved in Google Drive do not open directly on iOS and iPadOS devices. Use the iOS Files app (not the Google Drive app) to select and then Move the desired file from Drive to a location on your device or on iCloud.
Graphical Analysis Pro
You can share data from a live data-collection experiment, or data previously collected from a stored file, using Online Data Sharing available in Graphical Analysis Pro. All lab-group-member devices need to be connected to the internet, and the pro features of Graphical Analysis need to be activated.
The Device with the Data—Host
- Launch Graphical Analysis Pro.
- Set up for data collection or open an existing file that has the data you want to share.
- Click or tap Host a Data Sharing Session,
, and choose Start Session.
- Provide the six character Data Sharing ID with your lab partner(s). (The ID is five lowercase letters and a number with the number always in the fourth position.)
- Collect data (if you have not done so already).
Lab Partner Device(s)—Client(s)
- Launch Graphical Analysis Pro and choose Data Share.
- Enter the six digit Data Sharing ID generated from the host device.
- Click or tap Connect. Any data already collected will plot on the graph.
- Once all of the data has been transferred, click or tap File Menu,
, choose Save As, and save the file.
- Not all elements on the host device will transfer via Online Data Sharing. This includes imported videos, added notes, and any data analysis.
- Changes to the graph setup or doing data analysis on the client device can make it so data collected by the host device does not automatically plot on the client device(s), even though the client is still connected. The newly collected data will still be added to the client device(s).
- If the client device is no longer showing the graph changes made by the host, close the file, then reconnect to the host again.
