Are you packing up your Vernier equipment for storage over the summer? Here are some tips to ensure proper storage over a long break.
- Go Direct Products
- Do not leave them charging – better to leave them in a static state rather than charging. If you have a Go Direct® Charge Station (GDX-CRG), you can simply remove power to the station and leave the sensors in each bay.
Do not remove the battery – Go Direct products power down to tiny levels of current draw and should be fine over the summer.
Store in a cool, dry place – best not to leave them in a sunny window or other high-heat extreme for the summer.
Follow any specific probe instructions for storage – (such as pH, O2, etc)
- LabQuest 3, LabQuest 2, LabQuest Stream, and Original LabQuest
- If your school storage area is especially hot when the air conditioning is off for the summer, we recommend that you keep batteries in a location that remains cool. For details, see What is the best way to store LabQuest units over summer vacation?
- LabQuest 2 (LABQ2) and LabQuest 3 (LABQ3)
- Turn LabQuest completely off.
(Hold power button until the shutdown countdown is shown and wait for the countdown to complete.) - Remove the battery.
- Disconnect the charger.
- Turn LabQuest completely off.
- LabQuest Stream (LQ-STREAM)
- Turn completely off.
- Remove the battery.
- Disconnect the charger.
- Original LabQuest
- Turn LabQuest off (hold the power button down for 3 seconds).
- Disconnect the charger.
- pH Sensors and ORP Sensors
- Store your pH Sensors, Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) Sensors, and BNC electrodes vertically in the storage solution provided.
The storage solution should be refreshed periodically, and replacement solution can be purchased, if needed.
- Colorimeter
- Make sure no liquid (either in a cuvette or spilled) is inside your Colorimeter.
- O2 Gas Sensors
- Store your Oxygen Gas Sensors upright using the 250 mL Nalgene bottle that was shipped with the sensor.
- Dissolved Oxygen Probes
- Make sure your Dissolved Oxygen Probes are completely dry after emptying the filling solution and rinsing the sensor electrode and cap.
- Optical DO Probes
- The humid environment of the storage bottles in which Optical DO Probes are shipped is ideal for long-term storage. If the yellow sponge at the bottom of the storage bottle dries out, add a few drops of distilled water.
- Ion-Selective Electrodes
- Keep your Ion-Selective Electrodes in the humid environment of the storage bottles in which they were shipped. If the sponge at the bottom of the storage bottle has dried out, simply add a few drops of distilled water.
