Below is a thorough list of Vernier equipment that supports AP Physics 1 and 2. Since no two physics instructors teach AP physics in exactly the same way, this list may not have everything needed or may include sensors that are not needed in your curriculum. You will want to add or remove items depending on the sensors and equipment you currently have, as well as your preferences and teaching style.
AP Physics 1
For each lab station, we recommend the following sensors, accessories, and lab equipment:
- Dynamics Cart and Track System with Go Direct® Sensor Carts (DTS-GDX)
- Go Direct® Motion Detector (GDX-MD)
- Two (2) Go Direct® Force and Acceleration Sensor (GDX-FOR)
- Springs Set (SPRINGS)
- Friction Pad DTS (DTS-PAD)
- Go Direct® Rotary Motion Sensor (GDX-RMS)
- Rotational Motion Accessory Kit (AK-RMV)
- Go Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor (GDX-GP)
The following sensors and accessories would ideally be purchased per lab station, but also work quite well for large group demonstrations. Depending on your budget, you may wish to purchase one per lab station or just one per class:
- Go Direct® Projectile Launcher (GDX-PL)
- Go Direct® Centripetal Force System (GDX-CFA) and Centripetal Force Apparatus Moment of Inertia Accessory Kit (CFA-MIK)
- Go Direct® Force Plate (GDX-FP) (2 per lab station/class)
For AP Physics we recommend purchasing licenses to both Graphical Analysis Pro and Vernier Video Analysis.
The following lab books contain activities appropriate for AP Physics 1:
- Physics with Vernier (PWV)
- Advanced Physics with Vernier — Mechanics (PHYS-AM)
- Physics Explorations and Projects (PEP)
- Vernier Video Analysis: Motion and Sports (HSB-VVAMS-E)
- Vernier Video Analysis: Conservation Laws and Forces (HSB-VVACLF-E)
AP Physics 2
For each lab station, we recommend the following sensors, accessories, and lab equipment:
- Go Direct® Temperature Probe (GDX-TMP)
- Go Direct® Gas Pressure Sensor (GDX-GP)*
- Extech Digital DC Power Supply (EXPS)
- Vernier Circuit Board 2 (VCB2)
- Go Direct® Voltage Probe (GDX-VOLT)
- Two (2) Go Direct® Current Probe (GDX-CUR)
- Power Amplifier (PAMP) and LabQuest 3 (LABQ3)
- Solenoid (PHY-SN700)
- Go Direct® 3-Axis Magnetic Field Sensor (GDX-3MG)
- Go Direct® Static Charge (GDX-Q)
- Electrostatics Kit (ESK-CRG)
- Combination Track/Optics Bench (TRACK)**
- Optics Expansion Kit (OEK)
- Mirror Set for Optics Expansion Kit (M-OEK)
- Go Direct® Radiation Monitor (GDX-RAD)
* This product is also included in the AP Physics 1 list above. Only one is required per lab station.
** A Combination Track/Optics Bench (TRACK) is included in the Dynamics Cart and Track System with Go Direct® Sensor Carts (DTS-GDX) listed in the AP Physics 1 list above. Only one is required per lab station.
The following sensors and accessories would ideally be purchased per lab station, but also work quite well for large group demonstrations. Depending on your budget, you may wish to purchase one per lab station or just one per class:
- Diffraction Apparatus (DAK)#
- Go Direct® Emissions Spectrometer (GDX-SPEC-EM) with Vernier Emissions Fiber (VSP-EM-FIBER), Spectrum Tube Single Power Supply (ST-SPS), and a set of Spectrum Tubes
#The Diffraction Apparatus (DAK) requires either a LabQuest 3 (LABQ3) or LabQuest Mini (LQ-MINI) for data collection and analysis. We recommend the LabQuest3 because it can also be used as a frequency generator for the Power Amplifier (PAMP).
As with AP Physics 1, for AP Physics 2 we recommend purchasing licenses to both Graphical Analysis Pro and Vernier Video Analysis.
The following lab books contain activities appropriate for AP Physics 2:
- Physics with Vernier (PWV)*
- Advanced Physics with Vernier — Beyond Mechanics (PHYS-ABM)
- Physics Explorations and Projects (PEP)*
- Nuclear Radiation with Vernier (NRV-E)
* This product is also included in the AP Physics 1 list above. You need only to purchase this lab book once.
