Tip #1: Test the equipment prior to advancing into the field with a group of students. Nothing is more disappointing than discovering issues while in the field or realizing data was not saved when returning from the field.

Tip #2: Charge the LabQuest fully overnight before a day’s use in the field. Consider bringing extra, charged batteries into the field, such as our LabQuest® Battery Boost 3 (LQ-BOOST3). Information regarding tools for charging the battery in the field can be found at:
Can I use solar power or an external battery pack to power LabQuest?

Tip #3: If you are doing water quality, consider using the Data Matrix mode, which is perfect for collecting data at multiples sites over multiple days.
What is the Data Matrix and how is it used?

Tip #4: Keep the interface you are using dry during use and during transport. One of the simplest ways to keep your interface dry is to use a neck strap. If a student drops a LabQuest near the stream, it only goes as far as the end of the strap. We sell Vernier Lanyard (LQ-LAN) for the original LabQuest and LabQuest 2. We sell LabQuest® 3 Lanyard (LQ3-LAN) for LabQuest 3. Recommendations for additional waterproof and water-resistant tools are available at:
Are there options to protect my LabQuest from getting wet?

Tip #5: If using LabQuest 2, students can use the high-contrast mode when viewing LabQuest 2 in bright light. If using an original LabQuest or LabQuest 3, students can adjust the screen brightness to one hundred percent. Instructions to use these features can be found at:
Is the LabQuest screen bright enough for outdoor use?

Tip #6: Make a file prior to going in the field with the correct data entry mode, experiment length and other parameters already set up. Can I make a template data-collection file for the LabQuest App?
