Yes, you can import data from individual LabQuest App files into a single Logger Pro file. Here are some ways to do that.
Option 1—from files already transferred to the computer
- Transfer the desired LabQuest App (QMBL) files to a single computer that has Logger Pro installed. See, How do I move data from a LabQuest to a computer?
- Launch Logger Pro.
- From the File menu, select Import From â–¶ Logger Pro File…
- Navigate to the desired file, then choose Open. Data from the LabQuest file will be imported into the Logger Pro file in a new data set.
- Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for all of the LabQuest App files you want to import.
- Save the Logger Pro file. (Note: you can save the file as a LabQuest file by selecting Save As from the file menu, the changing the Save As type to LabQuest Files (qmbl) before saving the file.)
Option 2—from files saved on the LabQuest
- Verify the desired file you want to import is saved on the LabQuest.
- Launch Logger Pro.
- Connect LabQuest to the computer via the USB cable.
- From the Logger Pro File menu, choose LabQuest Browser â–¶ Import…
- Select the file, then click Import. Data from the LabQuest file will be imported into the Logger Pro file in a new data set.
- Repeat Steps 3 – 5 for all of the LabQuest devices that have saved files you wish to import.
- Save the Logger Pro file. (Note: you can save the file as a LabQuest file by selecting Save As from the file menu, the changing the Save As type to LabQuest Files (qmbl) before saving the file.)
Option 3—from the active file on a LabQuest
- Verify the desired data you want to import is showing in the LabQuest App data table.
- Launch Logger Pro.
- Connect LabQuest to the computer via the USB cable. The Remote Data Available dialog will appear.
- Choose Yes to retrieve the data now.
- Choose the option to Import remote data into the current session, then click OK. Data from the LabQuest file will be imported into the Logger Pro file in a new data set.
- Repeat Steps 3 – 5 for all of the LabQuest devices that have data you wish to import.
- Save the Logger Pro file. (Note: you can save the file as a LabQuest file by selecting Save As from the file menu, the changing the Save As type to LabQuest Files (qmbl) before saving the file.)
Analyzing the data
You can graph the imported data as individual runs and do statistics on individual runs. If the intent is to combine data to analyze a class set of data, here are a few options for doing that.
- In Logger Pro, you can make a new calculated column using the Analysis(“X”, startrow, endrow) function, which will combine columns having the same name from different data sets into a single column. For example: analysis(“Time”,1,10) would result in combining the data from columns named “Time” from rows 1—10. It is essential that all the columns have exactly the same name, so it is helpful to make a template for students to use prior to the experiment. See Can I make a template data-collection file for the LabQuest App?
- Use Google Forms and have students input data into a form, then save that data as a CSV file which you can import it into Logger Pro. Download the file below for detailed instructions using a field based study as an example.
