Cool Reaction! The Reaction of Baking Soda and Vinegar
Experiment #10 from Investigating Temperature
- Education Level
- Elementary School
Introduction
Have you ever mixed vinegar and baking soda? It’s fun to watch, but did you know that it is actually a chemical reaction that produces gas and changes temperature, too? The gas it produces is carbon dioxide, CO2, and the temperature change is what we are going to study in this activity. Does the temperature go up or down? We will soon find out!
Objectives
In this activity, you will
- Produce a reaction between baking soda and vinegar.
- Measure the changing temperature of a reaction.
- Make observations.
