According to the documentation provided by Logitech, the Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe does not work with Macintosh computers.
However, in our tests this model does work on Macintosh. Unfortunately, Logitech changes their model numbers and supported features often, so we can not guarantee that all Logitech cameras will work on Macs.
History and details:
If you have a Logitech QuickCam 5000 made after April of 2007, it is much more likely to work on a Mac.
Logitech stopped writing drivers for their cameras in Mac OS X 10.2.8. Without a Mac driver, there is not a way to use most of their cameras in Logger Pro for Mac. However, newer Quickcam models (those advertising Vista support) use a new video protocol called UVC. Starting in Mac OS X 10.4.9, the Mac OS started supporting UVC-compliant cameras. These cameras work on Macs with no additional software installation. Some (but not all) Quickcam 5000 cameras support UVC. Look for a part number 861205 on the camera’s tag.
The Logitech QuickCam Communicate Deluxe is not advertised as UVC-compliant, but apparently it is.
The Apple iSight seems to have squashed other manufacturers’ desire to build cheap cameras for the Mac. A FireWire DV camera is definitely a better option because of increased frame rates and image quality.
